Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent an excessive cooling of the lubricating oil for metal and also prevent a seizing accident, by providing a water supply pipe for a water seal packing of the main shaft with a valve to prevent a back flow to the metal cooler when the main shaft is stopped.
CONSTITUTION: A water supply line 16 feeding water via a strainer 17 to a water seal packing 15 for the main shaft of a water turbine 1 branched off from a water supply line 8, is provided with a valve 18. The valve 18 is normally opened when the main shaft is driven, and is automatically closed when it is stopped. Therefore, when the main shaft is closed, a back flow of water passing from a suction line 2 to a discharge line 3 and each coolers 9W12 is stopped by a valve 6, and cut off also by a valve 18, thereby preventing an excessive cooling of the lubricating oil.
