Abstract
PURPOSE: To quickly burn a thin mixture, by shaping an accessory combustion chamber as a cylinder, causing the axis of the ejection hole of the accessory combustion chamber not to intersect that of a combustion chamber and providing a guide portion at least near the axis of the ejection hole to guide a flame toward the axis of the combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: In each suction stage, a thin mixture is introduced into a main combustion chamber and a thick mixture is introduced into an accessory combustion chamber 10. In the following compression stage, the thin mixture flows into the accessory combustion chamber and a swirl is caused therein by a curved guide plate (guide portion) 14 around an ejection hole 11 as a piston 4 goes up. The mixture in the accessory chamber 10 is ignited by a spark plug 13 so that a flame gushes from the ejection hole 11. In the initial stage of pressure rise due to the ignition of the mixture in the accessory combustion chamber 10, the outflow energy of the flame is small and the flame gushes in a direction A. After that, the flame gushes in another direction B as the outflow energy increases. This results in quickly burning the thin mixture in the main combustion chamber 6.
