Abstract
PURPOSE: To gasify heavy hydrocarbons, in high efficiency and with extremely small deposition of carbon, by desulfurizing the hydrocarbons and gasifying the desulfurized hydrocarbons with steam in the presence of an Ru catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy hydrocarbons, final b.p.≤650°C, obtained by heat-treating petroleum or a petroleum-derived oil and distilling the heat-treated product, are desulfurized in a conventional manner, and subsequently steam-reformed in the presence of an Ru catalyst under conditions: a temperature of about 400W1000°C, a pressure of about 1W50Kg/cm2G, and an S/C of about 0.6W10, wherein S/C represents the number of O2 in steam per carbon atom in feedstock. Preferably, the Ru catalyst is supported on a support such as alumina, silica or silicon carbide, and the amount of Ru supported is 0.1W20wt%, based on the support.
