Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the interpolation between the minimum pitches of an incremental type encoder which is a digital type position detector without using an expensive analog-digital converter.
CONSTITUTION: Triangular waves are obtained when position detecting slits 2 are relatively moved for a photosensing part. By counting the number of the triangular waves, the number of openings of passed position detecting slits is obtained. When a wave reaches the position of the slit to be stayed, the difference between the discrete value and the sesired one, namely, position error volume, becomes zero. A region of one wave of the triangular waves exists in this section. When the position error volume becomes zero, the luminous intensity of a light emitting element 1 is changed by an oscillator OSC1 and photo-sensing output is obtained according to the area of the superposed part of a photo-sensing slit 3 and the position detecting slit 2 and the output is detected by an amplifier Amp 2 and converted into pulse width. The output pulse in an oscillator OSC2 is counted by a counter CNT through an AND gate AG which opened and closed by the pulse width.
