Abstract

PURPOSE: To quickly detect the sodium leakage, by providing a bellows which has the same shape as another bellows for a lower liquefied metal seal and is located on the upper part of a stem whereon a valve is secured and by placing a pressure and a temperature detectors in a space between both the bellows.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium, which flows through a passage 2 provided in the lower part of a valve casing 1, can be shut off by a valve 3. A stem 4, whereon the valve 3 is secured, is sealed up by a bellows 5 in the valve casing. Another bellows 15 similar to the former 5 is fitted on the upper part of the stem 4 so that the bellows 15 acts inversely to the other 5. The volume of an enclosed space between both the bellows is thus kept constant independently of the opening and closing of the valve. A detector 16 is installed to detect the pressure of the space 20. A pressure detection unit 17 is provided and has a mechanism to compensate the pressure change of the space 20 depending on the output of a temperature detector 21. The measured pressure is compared with a prescribed level to detect the damage of the bellows 5 and the leakage of the sodium.
