Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of an N-acetylaminophenol with POCl3 or PSCl3 under specific conditions is followed by acidic hydrolysis in the presence of a mineral acid to give economically title compound useful as synthetic intermediate od dyes and others through safe and simple procedures.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between an N-acetylaminophenol and POCl3 or PSCl3 gives the phosphate ester or thiophosphate ester. The reaction is conducted in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate, water and an organic solvent as a temperature of lower than 80°C. The resulting ester is hydrolyzed in an aqueous mineral acid to give said primary amino group-containing aminoaryl phosphate. The mineral acid used is preferably 5W50% concentration hydrochloric acid and the temperature is preferably 70W90°C. Under these conditions, the phosphate bonds are not broken and only acetyl group is hydrolyzed to give the objective compound in high yield.
