Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a coil from steep-wave lightning impulse voltage by a method wherein a plurality of series-connected nonlinear resistor elements are connected to a high voltage coil of a transformer, and the series-connected resistor elements are connected to each section of the coil. CONSTITUTION:A low voltage coil 12 is wound on an iron core 11. On the outer side of this, continuous disk-shaped high voltage coil 15 is provided. On line-side high voltage terminal 16 of the coil 15, an electrostatic shield 13 of the same potential as this is provided. Next, a series-connected nonlinear resistor elements 7-1- 7-7 consisting mainly of metal oxide are arranged in series between the terminal 16 and the coil 15. The connecting part of each element 7-1-7-7 is connected to each section unit of the coil 15. By this, it is possible to check steep-wave lightning impulse voltage from entering the coil 15, and at the same time, to improve the potential distribution inside the coil, so that the lifetime of the transformer is lengthened.
