Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the degree of integration, by using a reference voltage element in common to a positive and a negative current generation circuits for producing driving currents for a P gate and an N gate to reduce the number of parts.
CONSTITUTION: A driving circuit 40 for a PNPN switching element comprises a transistor 41 for the P gate driving constant current circuit, a transistor 43 for the N gate driving constant current circuit and a common reference voltage source 45. When a control circuit 30 is turned on, a current flows through a Zener diode 45 and a series resistor 46 so that a reference voltage is produced. The reference voltage is applied to a series circuit consisting of a resistor 42 and the base of the transistor 41 for the constant current circuit for driving the P gate, thereby generating a P gate driving current. An N gate driving current is generated by the N gate driving constant current circuit in the same manner. Thus, only one reference voltage source 45 is needed for both the driving circuits. Even if the transistors 41, 43 of both the constant current circuits are driven, a thyristor can be properly turned on.
