Abstract
PURPOSE: To synthesize various terpene compounds readily in high yield, by alkylating an O-linalyl-N,N-dialkyl-hydroxylamine with a specific compound capable of formint stable carbanions at a specific position under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An O-linalyl-N,N-dialkylhydroxylamine of formula I: (R1 is alkyl group) is reacted with a compound of formula II: (R2 is H or 1W4C alkyl group; R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, or lower alkoxy group; R4 is lower alkoxy group) in the presence of a palladium catalyst to give a palladium complex of formula III, which is heated in a solvent in the presence of a trialkylchlorosilane to give the compound of formula IV free from palladium. The method permits alkylation of the compound of formula I in high yield at a specific position, and easy synthesis of terpenes. The compound of formula IV can be converted to an intermediate for perfumes and medicines.
