Abstract
PURPOSE: To carry out highly selectively the isomerization between a cis and a trans form derivatives of the titled alcohol, by using selenium and/or a selenium compound which is readily obtainable as a catalyst and separated easily for reuse, or in the presence of a solvent besides it.
CONSTITUTION: The isomerization between a cis and a trans form compounds shown by the formula [R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group which may have a hetero atom, e.g., O, S, N, etc.; R3 is H, -COX (X is H, alkyl, or aromatic hydrocarbon group)] is carried out using selenium and/ or a selenium compound as a catalyst, or in the presence of a solvent besides it. The selenium catalyst is preferable in the form of metal selenium powder or a selenium oxide and its amount is preferably 0.5W20wt% based on raw material. n-Butanaol, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, DMF, etc. may be used as the solvent. The reaction temperature is 120W250°C.
