Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently recover carbonate and uranium from a dil.soln. of carbonate-contg. uranium collected from sea water by contacting the soln. to an acidic cation exchange resin to remove carbonate radicals and contacting it to an acidic cation exchange resin again.
CONSTITUTION: A dil. soln. of carbonate-contg. uranium after desorbing an adsorbent with uranium adsorbed from sea water is upward counter-currently contacted to a cation exchange resin of weakly acidic type or the like to remove carbonic acid radicals as carbon dioxide. By this countercurrent contact in the primary process a uranium desorption loss is prevented. The radicals-free soln. is contacted to a cation exchange resin again to allow the uranium to be selectively adsorbed. Since this resin slightly adsorbs org. matter in the soln., the conc. uranium soln. contains no org. matter to facilitate after-treatment.
