Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent disturbance of uranium adsorption due to org. matter and facilitate treatment of a secondary conc. soln. by allowing uranium in sea water to be adsorbed on an adsorbent and contacting a soln. of org. matter-contg. uranium desorbed from the adsorbent to an acidic cation exchange resin to allow the uranium to be selectively adsorbed.
CONSTITUTION: Uranium in a desorbing soln. used to desorb an adsorbent with uranium adsorbed from sea water is present as uranyl carbonate contaminated with org. matter. After removing carbonic acid radicals the soln. is contacted to an acidic cation exchange resin of weakly acidic type or the like. By this method a desorbing soln. contg. about several thousands ppm of uranium is obtd. The resin is slightly contaminated with the org. matter contained in the dil. uranium soln. to elongate its life. Since no org. matter is contained in the secondary conc. soln., treatment of the soln. is facilitated.
