Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the title material having superior crystallizability and high purity by adding alkali metal hydroxide to a tobermorite type calcium silicate hydrate-contg. substance and inducing hydrothermal reaction.
CONSTITUTION: A tobermorite type calcium silicate hydrate-contg. substance is mixed into an aq. soln. of alkali metal hydroxide. The amt. of the soln. is adjusted to such a degree or higher that the substance shown fluidity. The temp. required to form dibrous tobermorite crystals depends upon starting materials. For example, the materials are heated to 180°C or 200°C, and reaction is accelerated under satd. steam press. After the hydrothermal reaction fibrous tobermorite crystals as solid matter are taken out of an autoclave as a slurry suspended in water, and they are separated by filtration or other method and dried to obtain a fibrous mineral material, which is bulky white powder or flakes, readily permeates water, and has a relatively long size of about 30μ or more.
