Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a magnetic head of high gap work precision by dividing into two a magnetic substance with a ferromagnetic metal of accurate thickness bonded on its surface by thin-film technique and then by joining them together again with a nonmagnetic substance interposed for work. CONSTITUTION:A groove made in the flank of block 12 of ferrite, etc., is filled with nonmagnetic substance 14 and this flank is polished into a curved surface. Next, the thin-film technique is employed to bond on the above-mentioned surface ferromagnetic metal (permalloy, sendust, etc.,) 16 of thickness t2 a little bit greater than a desired gap depth, and then the block is divided by the d-d line into two pieces, cut surfaces of which are poloshed. On the above-mentioned poloshed surface of one block half piece, nonmagnetic substance 18 is bonded and a cut groove is provided and filled with adhesive 20 to bond this to the other block half piece with the curved-surface tip of ferromagnetic metal 16 agreeing with each other. Next, the above-mentioned curved surface is corrected by polishing to obtain desired gap depth t4 of the thickness of ferromagnetic metal 16.
