Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a magnetic head of excellent resistance to wear and high reliability by filling the step part of an upper magnetic layer with glass after the formation of the upper magnetic layer in the manufacture of a horizontal thin-film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:On substrate 6, lower magnetic layer 7 and insulating layer 8 are provided and on them, conductor coil 9 is formed; after all of them are covered with insulating layer 10, insulating layers 10 and 8 are photoetched to make window 11 extending to lower magnetic layer 7. Next, after upper magnetic layer 12 is formed and gap 13 is provided, glass layer 14 is further provided on it, and the layer 14 is lapped to remove a projecting part, thereby finishing upper magnetic layer 12 and glass layer 14 in the same plane.
