Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the circuit integration and to attain small size, by providing a common terminal to either one of the 1st conductor coil layer having a plurality of head elements or the 2nd conductor coil layer and forming a terminal section corresponding to each head for the other.
CONSTITUTION: In a thin film magnetic head having a multitrack, the 1st insulation film 2 made of SiO2 or the like is provided as required on a magnetic substance base 1, after vapor-depositing Al on the film 2, and the 1st conductor coil layer 3 with a desired pattern is formed through etching. A terminal section 3c common to all tracks is provided for the layer 3. After forming the 2nd insulation film 4 similarly as the film 2, a magnetic substance layer 5 such as permalloy is laminated and etching is made to form a desired shape. The 3rd insulation film 6 is provided and a window 7 is formed to a coil layer 6 with etching to a specified part. Finally, the 2nd conductor coil layer 8 is formed and one external connecting terminal section 8a is formed to the layer 8 at each head element. Since a pair of terminals is not required for each head element, the track gap is reduced and circuit integration can be increased.
