Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the contactual efficiency between catalyst and gas by relaxing the drift of gas in reactior by boring great numbers of holes in the base plate of a plate catalyst in order to increase the effective surface area of the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A great number of the holes 3 of a circular, oval, square, or semicircular form, having a diameter of 1W30mm, are bored in the base plate 1 of stainless steel, etc., and then the metal plate is processed by flame spraying to roughen its surface and then coated with the catlyst component 2. If necessary, the surface in contact with the hole 3 of the base plate 1 is sloped. The use of the plate catalyst causes a part of gas passing through the holes to disturb, whereby preventing clogging due to dust or the drift of gas and also increasing the effective surface area of the catalyst. Thus, the efficiency of reaction can be raised.
