Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the occupation rate of a coil in an electromagnetic device and to improve the heat radiating effect of a coil of the electromagnetic device used for a discharge-lamp ballast or the like for making the coil best suitable for large currents by using strap-like element wire for it. CONSTITUTION:An autotransformer or the like is composed of four coils 4a-4d connected in series, and a primary-side terminal P, a secondary-side terminal Q, and a common terminal R are led from the connecting point of the coils 4b and 4c, the end of the coil 4d, and the end of the coil 4a respectively. The transformer is produced as follows: a coil bobbin 5 is equipped with two connecting strap-like wires 6 and 7 of different lengths, conductive exposed-parts 8a, 9a, and both 8b and 9b at ends of the wires being used as the terminals R, P, and R respectively, and strap-like element wire is wound around the wires 6 and 7 to make the coils 4a and 4b, with each end of the coils connected to the conductive exposed-parts 8b and 9b. Thus, using the element wire permits the occupation rate of the coil to increase and its heat radiating effect to be improved.
