Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high yield, simply by distilling a dihydric phenol mixture containing high-boiling by-products after addition or while adding a specific amount of water or steam to decompose even the by-products.
CONSTITUTION: By-product actone, solvent, and low-boiling components boiling below the objective dihydric phenol (D) are almost removed from the decomposition mixture of diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide, and the D mixture containing high- boiling by-products is distilled after adding or while adding 1W10wt% based on the mixture of water or steam thereto to recover D. Preferably, the water is continuously added from the standpoint of operation. This method is applicable in either stage of recovery and purification.
