Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate 2,6-dichloropyridine efficiently from a mixture solution containing the 2,6-dichloropyridine obtained by reacting a pyridine with chlorine in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, by using water and SO2 gas directly.
CONSTITUTION: Water and SO2 gas are directly added to a mixture solution containing 2,6-dichloropyridine obtained by reacting pyridine or 2-chloropyridine with chlorine in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. CCl4, for 10W30min at 25W35°C to reduce the unreacted chlorine in the solution and extract 2-chloropyridine in the form of a salt with water. The solution is then washed with a small amount of an alkali, and the halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. CCl4 is distilled off. Then, the 2,6-dichloropyridine is separated by the distillation. The water is added to the mixture solution in such an amount as to correspond to the remaining chlorine and 2mol or more per mole the chlorine is necessary.
