Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Propargyl-type alcohols of formula I (X1 and X2 are H, or one of them is H and the other is a signle bond together with Z1; Z1 is OH or lower alkoxy; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 4-Isopropenyl-3,6,7-trimethyl-1-octyne-3,7-diol of formula II.
USE: Intermediates for the production of irones useful as perfumes (a compound of formula III), etc.
PROCESS: Halogen compounds of formula IV (halo is halogen) are reacted with oxide or isomesityl oxide to obtain β,γ-unsaturated ketones of formula V. The by-produced α,β-unsatusated ketones are a/so converted into β,γ-unsaturated ketones by isomerization. The β,γ-unsaturated ketones are ethynylated to obtain the compounds of formula I.
