NEW MATERIAL:A camphorene derivative of formula I (R is 1W3C lower alkyl; F is OH, acetoxy, or oxo).
EXAMPLE: 3-(2,2,3-Trimethyl-3-cyclopenten-1-yl)-3-propanol.
USE: Perfumery or flavoring agent or composition, useful for the production of cosmetics, soap, foods, drinks, medicines, etc.
PROCESS: Camphorenaldehyde of formula V is reacted with a Grignard reagent of formula RMgX (X is halogen) or an organo-lithium reagent of formula RLi, and the product is hydrolyzed to obtain an alcohol compound of formula II, which is converted to an acetate of formula III by reacting with an acetylating agent. The compound I can be converted to a ketone compound of formula IV by reacting with an oxidizing agent.
