Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a primary arylamine, in high purity with low energy consumption, by distilling a mixture of a primary arylamine, water and picolines in the presence of toluene.
CONSTITUTION: Water and picolines are removed from a mixture of a primary arylamine (e.g. aniline, toluidine, etc.), water and picolines, by distilling the mixture in the presence of toluene. Water is distilled out together with toluene with low energy consumption, and picolines are removed almost completely from the top of the distillation column. The process is useful in the production of a primary arylamine by the reaction of a monohydric phenol with ammonia.
