Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure how much rolling fatigue at each point of each object advances, by adequately processing X-ray diffraction half-value width and the quantity of residual austenite found at each position of each object by discriminating between the both.
CONSTITUTION: The X-ray diffraction half-value width of the martensite phase of the rolling part of a metal material and the quantity of residual austenite are measured and on the basis of the quantity of residual austenite, the value of the corrected measured value of the X-ray diffraction half-value width is obtained. This correction value is evaluated according to the standard corresponding to each position of the rolling part so as to measure fatigue at each point. The correction value can be found from a constant determined by the metal material, and the quantities of residual austenite and X-ray diffraction half-value widths at the time of fatigue and nonfatigue.
