Abstract
PURPOSE: To form an alkali resistant resin protective film which well joins with cement on the surface of a glass fiber with low alkali resistance by surface-treating the fiber with an emulsion based on acrylic acid ester resin and styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber.
CONSTITUTION: An emulsion pref. of 10W20wt% based on acrylic acid ester resin such as polymethyl acrylate, styrene-acrylic acid ester copolymer resin and anionic or cationic styrene-butadiene copoymer rubber is prepared. Using this emulsion a glass fiber with no alkali resistance obtd. by properly combining SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, CaO, BaO, etc. or a glass fiber with low alkali resistance obtd. by blending 25wt% or less of ZrO2 to the above-mentioned fiber is surface-treated to form an alkali resistant resin film on the fiber surface. This film is then dried to produce a surface-treated glass fiber product.
