NEW MATERIAL:A 7-alkylidenebicyclo[2.2.1]heptene derivative of formulas I-A and I- B (R and R1W2 are alkyl groups; R1 and R2 may form a cycloalkylene group with the carbon atoms to which they are linked; X' and Y' are halogen or halocarbonyl groups).
EXAMPLE: 7-[-[2-n-Pentyl-4(S), 5(S)-dimethyl-1, 3-dioxolan-2-yl]ethylidene]bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-2-one.
USE: Precursors for prostaglandin, capable of being led to the objective compound readily in high yield.
PROCESS: A 6-(2,2-ethylenedioxyethyl)fulvene derivative of formula II is subjected to the Diels-Alder reaction with a 1,1-disubstituted ethylene, e.g. α-chloroacryloyl chloride, of formula III to form the compound of formula I-A.
