Abstract

PURPOSE: The specific isomerization of 1,2-epoxy-3-cycloalkene is effected in the presence of a catalyst as metal Pd under mild conditions to produce title compound useful as intermediate for drugs, such as prostaglandin, in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The isomerization of 1,2-epoxy-3-cycloalkene of formula I (Z is 1W4C alkylene forming a ring, where one carbon atoms included in the 5W8 membered ring may be substituted with an organic radical of 1W10 carbon atoms) is effected in the presence of an isomerization catalyst at room temperature in a neutral medium to produce the objective compound of formula II. The isomerization catalyst used is, e.g., preferably metal palladium, palladium chloride. When necessary, the use of organic phosphine as the auxilliary catalyst is preferred. Palldium tetrakistriphenylphosphine complex of formula III (X is halogen; R is monofunctional organic radical; m is 0, 1, 2; 1 is 1W4) also can be employed.
USE: Starting material for agricultural chemicals and perfume.
