Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the potential state of a developing device, transfer device, etc. simple by uniformly charging a recording medium and performing the discharging of the polarity opposite from the uniform charging with a pin electrode. CONSTITUTION:This is so constituted that uniform charging is done on a recording medium 7 by a corona charger 8, thence start pulse 10 and print pulse 11 are respectively applied to the electrodes P1, P2 of the pin electrode 9 of the pair construction installed non-contactually with the recording medium 7 and that discharging is done at the electrode end face to generate positive and negative ions. Positive ions, attracted by the electric field in the gap part, deposit on the recording medium 7 and remove or decrease part of the charges, thereby forming a latent image. Since the magnitude of the electric field in the gap part is controlled by applying the uniform charging beforehand to the recording medium 7 in this way, there is no need for applying bias voltage to the belt body and the potential state of the developing device, transfer device, etc. may be made extremely simple.
