Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a separator having excellent dimensional stability by forming continuously low-grafted or non-grfted portions in the separator to render a highly- grafted portion discontinous. CONSTITUTION:In the graft polymerization of a monomer with ion exchange groups, e.g., acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, etc., on polyethylene film as a backbone polymer, a low-grafted or non-grafted portion is formed continously around a highly grafted portion and a discontinuous highly-grafted portion is formed separately from the other highly-grafted portion. Thus, because the non-grafted portion around the discontinuous highly grafted portion is not swelled at all or swelled to very small extent even if the discontinous highly grafted portion is swelled with an electrolyte, the dimensions of the separator undergo little change as a whole.
