Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compounds useful as intermediates of medicines, etc., from easily available raw materials, economically and in high yield, by the reaction of nitrogen-containing organic bases with α-β-unsaturated ketones and an ozone- containing gas, or their reaction products ozonides.
CONSTITUTION: α-Ketocarboxylic acids are obtained from industrially available raw materials, economically and in high yield, by (a) reacting α,β-unsaturated ketones and an ozone-containing gas preferably in the presence of 0.05W50mol, to 1mol of the ketone, of nitrogen-containing organic bases, particularly pyridines, or (b) decomposing ozonides which are obtained by the reaction of α,β-unsaturated ketones and an ozone-containing gas, preferably in the presence of 0.05W50mol, to 1mol of said compounds, of nitrogen-containing organic bases, perticularly pyridines. The reaction temperature is preferably -150W100°C in each case.
