Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxy resin composite material usable as resin molds for working a metal, capable of giving cured articles having improved metallic gloss and mechanical properties, with little settling properties, comprising a sponge reduced iron powder having a specific apparent density in a specific proportion.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An epoxy resin, e.g. prepared from a hydroxycarboxylic acid and epichlorohydrin, is incorporated with (B) 50W85wt% of a sponge reduced iron powder having an apparent density of 1.9W2.8 and a percentage by weight under a 200-mesh screen ≥50, and (C) a curing agent, e.g. triethylenetetramine, to give the objective composition. The addition of 2wt% or less of glass fibers, 5W50μ in diameter and 0.05W5mm in length, treated with a silane coupling agent, e.g. methacrylato chromic chloride further improves the cohesive failure and impact resistance.
