Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high resolution in a simple structure by providing a movable portion having a plurality of field legs with a specified distance being provided in- between, against a traveling path having a pair of iron cores having teeth of a specified pitch and a means to supply bias magnetic fluxes. CONSTITUTION:A pair of iron cores 11 and 12, wherein teeth with a specified pitch P are formed on the traveling surface, are arranged so that they are shifted by a half pitch. A permanent magnet 10 which is a means to supply bias-magnetic fluxes is provided between the iron cores 11 and 12. In this way, a traveling path 1 is constituted. Against the traveling path 1, is provided a movable portion 2 which has m field legs, e.g., 5 field legs a-e, wherein teeth are formed at a specified pitch P at the individual ends, and exciting windings 31-35 provided on the field legs a-e. The individual field legs a-e are shifted by (N+ or -n/m)X P one another, where n is an integer smaller than the number of the field legs m.
