Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the optical fiber connector which is capable of performing stable optical coupling under adverse environment by applying sealing between plugs and receptacles so that the butt part is shielded from the atmospheric air. CONSTITUTION:A groove part 7b for mounting a hermetic ring 8 is provided for hermetic sealing to part of the outside circumference 7a of a plug 7. A taper part 9b for closely fitting the hermetic ring 8 is provided to the inlet part of a precision fitting hole 9a for the plug 7. The plug 7 is then fitted into the fitting hole 8a of a receptacle 9 and when the receptacle 9 is pressed by the elasticity of a cap nut 5 and ring 6, the hermetic ring 8 is interposed between the groove part 7b of the plug 7 and the taper part 9b of the receptacle 9 and is closely fitting by its elasticity. Hence, the contact part of the plugs to themselves and the fitted part between the plugs 7 and receptacles 9 are shielded from the atmospheric air, whereby the entry of water, dust, etc. from the outside is prevented and the optically stable coupling is obtained.
