Abstract

PURPOSE: To inexpensively improve the performance of the anode for alkali chloride electrolysis by applying the mixed coating composed of the specific ratios of manganese oxides and palladium oxides formed through thermal decomposition of compounds on a conductive substrate.
CONSTITUTION: The anode for alkali chloride electrolysis is formed by applying the mixed coating layer of the manganese compounds 99W50mol% and palladium compounds 1W50mol% formed through thermal decomposition of manganese compounds and palladium compounds on a conductive substrate. The formation of the above-mentioned coating simply necessitates coating the mixed aqueous solution of the manganese compounds and paralladium compounds composed respectively of the specified ratios followed by heat-treating in an electric oven or the like. It is equally well to precoat the intermediate layer of platinum group metal oxides prior to the above coating. This anode has low chlorine overvoltage and high oxygen overvoltage and is the corrosion-resistant electrode which is inexpensive and superior in performance.
