Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide superior high temp. oxidation resistance to an austenitic steel by adjusting the Si+Cr content of the steel to a specified value or more and reducing the amt. of MnS in the steel.
CONSTITUTION: A steel consisting of C≤0.1%, Si≤5%, Mn≤2%, Ni 9W15%, Cr 17.5W25% and the balance Fe. In the steel the amt. of Cr+Si is adjusted to 22.5% or more, and the amt. of S out of impurities to 0.003% or less. The steel preactically contains no MnS. 1.5% or less of one or more out of Ti, Nb, Zr, Ta and Hf may be added to the steel to contribute to enhancement of the oxidation resistance.
