Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound directly useful as a high-molecular-weight monomer, or an intermediate for a spice, a plasticizer, etc., by reacting an aromatic- substituted compound and a substituted olefin in the presence of CO, using a carbonyl group-containing rhodium complex as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic-substituted compound shown by the formula R-H [R is the formula I (R1 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen) on the formula II (R2 is R1), R1 and R2 may be the same or different, have two or more of the same group respectively] is reacted with a substituted olefin shown by the formula R3CH= CHR4 [R3 and R4 are H, alkyl, phenyl, aryl, alkoxy, etc., may be the same, have two or more of the same groups respectively, form the formula III or IV (R5 is H, alkyl, etc.] to give an aromatic-substituted compound shown by the formula V. A rhodium complex consisting mainly of rhodium carbonyl is used as a catalyst and the reaction is carried out under an applied pressure of CO. A compound which is obtained with difficulty by a conventional method can be obtained selectively and easily.
