Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance heat stability, moderate reaction conditions and reduce a necessary amount of a solvent, through a method wherein polyoxymethylene is stabilized by adding cryptand or a polyethylene glycol derivative to a catalyst such as an alkali metal salt.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A catalyst is formed from (a) an anion obtained by removing H+ from an acid having dissociation constant lower than 1.5×10-4 in water at 25°C and (b) a cation selected from a group of alkali metal cation, alkaline earth metal cation, ammonium ion and substituted ammonium ion, and (B) (c) cryptand and/or (d) a polyethylene glycol derivative forming a complex with (A) are added together with (A) to stabilize (D) polyoxymethylene by (c) acid anhydride. Herein, 0.0005W1pts. of (A) is used to (D) and, moreover, 0.01W100mol of (c) is used to one mole of (A) in case of (C) alone and 0.5W100pts.wt. of (d) is used to 1pts.wt. of (A) in case of (d) alone.
