Abstract

PURPOSE: As catalysts, are used a salt from specific anion and cation and a macrocyclic polyether, thus permitting the more efficient stabilization of unstabilized polyoxymethylene with an acid anhydride and simultaneously increasing the heat stability of the polyoxymethylene.
CONSTITUTION: When unstabilized polyoxymethylene is stabilized by esterification of the terminal hydroxyl groups with an acid anhydride, a combination of (A) a salt from (a) an anion resulting from removing hydrogen ion from and acid with a dissociation constant of lower than 1.5×10-4 in water at 25°C as formic or benzoic anion, and (b) a cation of alkali, alkalin earth metal or ammonium cation and (B) a macrocyclic polyether that can form a complex with the salt as of formula I and II (m, n are 1W4) is used as the catalyst wherein the amount of component (A) is 0.001W0.01 part per 100 parts of polyoxymethylene and component (B) is 0.2W0.5 mole per mole of component (A).
