Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high yields without pollution, by using a specific ratio of a styrene-based compound, a benzene-based compound, and a hydrogen fluoride catalyst, by setting a specified temperature to control the polymerization of the styrene-based compound, in the reaction of the styrene-based compound with the benzene-based compound.
CONSTITUTION: 0.4Mol or less of a styrene-based compound shown by the formula I (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, or 1W4C alkyl) is reacted with one mol of a benzene- based compound shown by the formula II (R3WR6 are H, 1W4C alkyl; provided that the sum of carbon number of R3WR6 is 0W4) to give an aromatic binuclide shown by the formula III. 0.03W0.5mol of a hydrogen fluoride catalyst is used based on one mol of the benzene-based compound. The reaction temperature is not lower than 0°C, preferably in a temperature range from not lower than 10°C to not higher than the boiling point of the benzene-based compound.
USE: A high-boiling solvent, heating medium, electrical insulating oil.
