Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield, without using expensive solvents, by heating an alkoxycarbonylanilinodihydroacridanone at a specific temperature in an inert gaseous atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-alkoxycarbonyl-2-anilino-1,4-dihydro-9-acridanone expressed by formula I (R is alkyl), e.g. a power thereof, is heated in an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen or gaseous carbon dioxide, at 240W350°C, preferably 260W300°C, for 2W 30min to give the aimed compound expressed by formula II. The resultant β-crystal phase 6,13-dihydroquinacridone can be readily converted into the γ-crystal phase quinacridone as a red pigment having improved light, weather, heat and solvent resistance with an ordinary oxidizing agent.
