Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise substantially brightness without causing the exfoliation of fluorescent substance layer by coaing the surface of the fluorescent substance layer with an intermediate layer consisting of a densed layer and a porous layer.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the supporting base plate 21 is coated with the cesium iodide fluorescent substance layer 22, then covered with a composite intermediate layer consisting of the dense layer 23 and the porous layer 24, and lastly covered with the photoconductive layer 25. In such a structure, the cesium iodide can be effectively isolated from the photoconductive layer even if the thickness of the intermediate layer is thin. Thus, an image doubling tube having a greatly improved brightness can be obtained.
