Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent misfire caused by a sooty spark plug by applying a high tension to the spark plug during the exhaust stroke to remove the carbon adhering to the spark plug. CONSTITUTION:A first high tension of approximately -10KV is applied to a spark plug 20 by a first high tension generator 30 through a distributor 50 during the exhaust stroke. The high tension raises the temperature of the carbon adhering to the insulator so that the carbon is removed in the form of carbon dioxide. The carbon is efficiently oxidized as the exhaust valve 9 opens during the exhaust stroke and the secondary air is introduced into the combustion chamber 2 through a reed valve 11 and a secondary air supply pipe 10 to an exhaust port 8 so that sufficient fresh air is supplied around the spark plug 20.
