Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency of coupling a bundle and a light source by removing the end portion clad of each fiber or making it thinner and putting each fiber end portion into a sleeve.
CONSTITUTION: Cover 4 of bundle 5 is peeled off to expose fibers 3, and the tip portion clad of each fiber 3 is removed by a suitable method. This bundle end portion is then put into sleeve 6, and a filler whose refractive index is lower than that of the core is preferably filled in the vacant space in sleeve 6. Sleeve 6 is prefrerably made of material whose refractive index is lower than that of the core material. For example, thin-walled sleeve 6 made of fluororesin is used, and the outside of sleeve 6 is fitted with main sleeve 9 made of metal and auxiliary sleeve 10 formed while considering attachement to machinery. Epoxy type adhesive 11 is filled in sleeve 9 to unify bundle 5 and sleeve 9, and end face 12 is polished to obtain the predetermined bundle end.
