Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce size, enhance practicability and make handling easy by holding the exposed cores with plural fixing jigs and filling the filler having nearly the same refractive index as that of clad in the clearance formed by the core and fixing jigs. CONSTITUTION:The clads 2-1, 2-2 of the optical fibers , to be connected are removed for the length corresponding to the thickness of connecting jigs to expose cores. The respective cores are fixed through point contact by fixing jigs 4 and 5, and the filler 7 of the same refractive index as that of the clad material is filled in the clearance 6 near the contact portions with the fixing jigs 4, 5 around the core 1. Then, the core 1 may be sufficiently fixed by the fixing jigs 4, 5 inscribing to the sleeve 3 and therefore there is no need for increasing the length of the core 1 in its lengthwise direction and the connector becomes relatively small in size, hence its practicability becomes higher and its handling easier.
