Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the production of coenzyme Q10 on a large scale economically and stably, by a method wherein a specified coenzyme Q10-producing strain is cultivated to obtain cells and the coenzyme Q10 is separated and extracted from the cells.
CONSTITUTION: A coenzyme Q10 of formula I producing strain of Agrobacterium genus, Flavobacterium genus, Priozobium genus or Thiobacillus genus is cultivated to obtain cultivated liquid. Cell separation from the cultivated eiquid is carried out by a solid-liquid separation method, and then the coenzyme Q10 is separated and extracted by a conventional method. The cultivation is carried out at a temp of 20W45°C and at a pH of 5W10 by either batchwise or continuous operation. The separation and extraction of the coenzyme Q10 from the cells is carried out, e.g. by suspending the cells in ethanol, heating the suspension to 50W90°C for one hour or more and extracting the coenzyme. The crude extract can be purified by using alumina, silica gel, or the like.
