Abstract

PURPOSE:The above mentioned member, having a hard and superior abrasion resisting sulfurizing nitriding layer on the surface of metal member suffering sliding friction. CONSTITUTION:Sulfurizing nitriding treatment of steel material subjected to sliding friction, is carried out in the vacuum heating furnace. On this occasion, mixd gas (N2, NH3 etc. as N2 source, H2S as sulfur source, Ar, He, H2 etc. as dilution gas), is introduced. Then, sulfide layer (less than 3.5mum of grain diameter of FeS) having self lubricating action and lubricant maintaining action on the surface of the steel material, is made by treating at a fixed condition. At the same time, compound layer with ground metal composed of sulfide (FeS) and nitride (Fe4N, F2-3N) having hardening action for the above metal, is made.
