Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an uniformly graft-polymerized separator by a small-scale apparatus in which a polyolefin base film is brought into contact with a monomer while being reciprocated repeatedly. CONSTITUTION:A polyethylene film is put in a polyethylene bag and then exposed to a 20Mrad electron ray-irradiation. Then, the film so treated is rolled up around the roll A and its end is set the roll B through the movable roll C. Then, the film is alternately wound around both the rolls A and B at a winding rate of 10m/min. in a reaction liquid obtained by adding 0.25% a Mohl's salt to a 50wt% acrylic acid aqueous solution in the atmosphere of nitrogen gas at 25 deg.C for 5hr in a container to cause reaction to take place. After the reaction, the grafted film is washed with water to extract unreacted monomer and homopolymer present and then dried to obtain a separator.
