Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure an accurate detection for the absolute position of the mobile object with noncontact by distributing the patterns of the maximum cycle rows at either one side of the motion part or the fixed part in the motion direction and in a row and then installing the sensor at the other side to utilize the maximum cycle row.
CONSTITUTION: For instance, n=4 units of reflective sensors 2W5 are distributed in a row with fixed distance between them and along the travelling direction of the mobile object. While the reflective tape pinted in the white and black areas separately is provided to the travelling path and in opposition to sensors 2W5. And the distribution between the white and black areas is set so that the maximum cycle row may be 24-1=15. Sensors 2W5 deliver signal 1 when opposing to the white area and has no output when opposing to the black area respectively. On the other hand, maximum cycle row generator 11 delivers the array pattern with every input of the pulse from clock pulse generator 14. And when an agreement is obtained between the output of sensors 2W5 and the array pattern at the reference point of generator 14, signal 1 is delivered from NAND circuit N5. With this output, latch circuit 17 latches counter 15 of the clock pulse. Then the present position can be detected based on the contents of counter 15.
