Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the contact resistance of an electrical contact material without deteriorating the fusion and consumption resistances by adding a little carbon and Co to an Ag-WC matrix.
CONSTITUTION: Starting material powder of a compsn. consisting of, by wt., WC 30W40%, Co 0.3W1.5%, C 0.3W2.0% and the balance Ag essentially is wet-mixed, molded, sintered, repressurized, and worked by cutting or other method to manufacture a contact material of the desired form. It is considered that a little C contained in the material mainly acts to stabilize the contact resistance of the material, and consumption of the material increased by adding C is reduced by the action of Co. In order to maintain fusion and consumption resistances as an electrical contact material this content range is appropriate for WC.
