Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the welding speed of titled electrode and the stability of the arc, by adjusting the particle size of the fluorite, one of the main constituents of the coating material, into a specified range.
CONSTITUTION: The particle size of CaCO3 together with the fluorite being one of the main constituents of the coating material for the low hydrogen type covered electrode, is desired to be wholly above 0.125mm; however, if the fine particle smaller than 0.125mm is included to such extent as under 20%, this fine particle affects so little as hardly causing any trouble. As for the residual amount excluding this fine particle of less than 20%, the particle size is adjusted into a range 0.125W 1mm. By preparing the fluorite with such particle distribution as above, the size of the molten particle at the tip of electrode and the unstableness are so diminished that the welding speed and the stability of the arc are both improved. Additionally, the content of the fluorite in the coating material is adjusted to a range 10W25wt%.
